July Wine Classes

Three-Part Series
Tuesdays, July 13, 20 & 27       6:30PM

It is time for a new three-part series of wine classes here at The Wine Room on Park Avenue! At these classes we taste six wines that are representative of the individual themes. At each class we also cover all the basics about wine service, wine storage and wine aging. We discuss questions such as how long do wines age, what is the best stemware to use, what wines best complement different cuisine, and should I let my red wines "breathe" and should I decant certain wines.  How do I go about finding the best wine values and what constitutes a fine wine from one that is just commercially acceptable?  We also discuss winery techniques such as the use of oak barrels and the  different methods of fermentation. It is my hope that during these three sessions you will learn which types of wine you prefer, for, in the final analysis, the best wine is the one that you like the best!

Session I-Great Summer Wines
Tuesday, July 13   6:30Pm
For this session I want to concentrate on wines that are very appropriate and delicious to drink in the middle of our long summer. For the reds we will sample two Pinot Noirs, one from Sonoma's Russian River Valley and one from Oregon. As much flavor as a good Pinot Noir can have, it is in the nature of this grape to produce lighter-bodied reds with red fruits and crisp acidity: perfect for summer. There are many white wines, especially those that are not oaked, that are really ideal for warm weather. For example, a Pinot Gris from Oregon, a fine Riesling from the Mosel River in Germany, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or a delicious Italian white from Umbria's village of Orvieto. It is these types of wines that we will taste and discuss during this first session.

Session II--What is the World's "Best" Red Wine Grape?
Tuesday, July 20   6:30PM
Cabernet Sauvignon is usually considered the world's best grape. Well, let's put that to the test. Let's compare a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with several similarly priced reds made from some other outstanding grapes. Let's taste an Argentine Malbec, a Chilean Carmenere, a Spanish Garnacha and an Australian Shiraz. It should be fun and certainly educational.

Session III-French Champagnes vs. the World's other Sparkling Wines
Tuesday, July 27     6:30PM
When we hear the word Champagne most people do not make a distinction between Champagnes--which are the sparkling wines made in France's famous Champagne-- and the many sparkling wines made in California, Australia and other wine regions as well. This session will give you a good opportunity to decide for yourself which sparkling wines are your favorites and which are the best values. And what  better time  to refresh yourself with these sparkling wines than in the heart of our Florida summer!

Each session is $30.00 per person, but if you are able to sign up for all three classes, I can offer all three for just $75.00. However, I cannot honor any refunds. We have a lot of fun at these classes which are held in our cool, private & beautiful Wine Vault. To make your reservations please either call me at 407-696-9463 or e-mail me at david@thewineroomonline.com with your credit card #. I like to keep these classes small and can only accommodate 12 people. I hope you can join us to learn more about this fascinating and delicious beverage. Thank you.
