Special Offer – A Great Champagne!
$39.99/bottle
Taittinger La Francaise Brut
Perennially one of the best of the Brut multi-vintage Champagnes. Remember that true Champagne can only be made in France’s Champagne region north of Paris. Each Champagne House has created a house “style” for their multi-vintage Brut sparkling wines. For my palate, Taittinger is on the elegant, more subtle side of the taste spectrum among all the different houses. The La Francaise is made from approximately equal amounts of Chardonnay & Pinot Grapes from several different vintages. And, since it is not a vintage Champagne (that is, not made exclusively from grapes from one year’s harvest), it can achieve a consistency of style and excellence with each and every bottle. This special price of $39.99 per bottle is more than competitive with any place in Florida. We have plenty in inventory and, since it is also one of our Champagnes that we sell by the glass at the bar, you can taste before you buy a bottle.

Cork vs. Screw Cap
We all know all the jokes about screw cap wines. They have always been associated with “El Cheapo” wines that you had to sneak into a party! Well, you may have noticed that those times have changed. Many wineries all over the world—even in ultra-conservative France—have turned to using screw caps (the best ones I know are called Stelvin closures). The reason is simple: corks can sometimes contain a compound called TCA which leads inevitably to what is referred to as a “corked” wine. Just to set the record straight, a corked wine is one that has taken on a bad mildew aroma and taste. And no matter how long you let such a wine “breathe”, this “dirty sink” odor will only get worse and it renders the wine undrinkable. This can never happen with a Stelvin closure. The new technology developed by this company has proven itself to be very effective in keeping a wine sealed against oxygen which is wine’s number one enemy. The only possible drawback with these screw caps is that we are not sure how (or even if) the wine will age. But in most cases this is not even a consideration, since almost all wine bought is consumed within 24 hours anyway. At the forefront of screw cap use and experimentation is Australia where you see both reds and whites in all price ranges with these screw caps. Screw caps are used predominately for white wines, especially from Chile, New Zealand and more and more from California, but the use of screw caps is becoming ever more popular for red wines as well. But if you enjoy the ritual of pulling a cork with that characteristic “pop”, sniffing it, and looking at the beautiful red stain on the bottom, never fear. Corks are still a very effective and attractive means of sealing wines and, I predict, they will be with us for a very long time to come. I would miss them if they disappeared entirely, but every time I get an expensive “corked” bottle that I have to pour down the sink, I wish that the winery had forgone tradition and had used one of these new and actually attractive Stelvin closures instead of the trusty old cork.

2005 Bordeaux’s – The Greatest Vintage
We have all heard of The Greatest Generation, well 2005 in Bordeaux has now been unequivocally declared by Robert Parker The Greatest Vintage ever! That includes such classic vintages as 1961, 1982, 1996 and even 2000. Over the past two years we have been selling these great Chateau-bottled wines on a futures and pre-arrival basis. Most have been spoken for, but we still have in inventory a number of the top wines of this unbelievably great vintage. On our retail shelves, we have the 2005 Ch. Brane-Cantenac (Margaux), the 2005 Ch. Grand-Puy-Lacoste (Pauillac), the Ch. 2005 La Gaffeliere (St. Emilion), the 2005 Ch. Giscours (Margaux) and a number of others as well, all rated well into the nineties by Parker. Please inquire for pricing and availability.

Where’s the Fruit?
Many of our patrons have asked us to add a fruit plate to our menu. Others have asked for bigger portions of cheese on our Flight selections. Coming soon, The Wine Room will do both! A Fruit Plate is being added and will feature a variety of seasonal berries, grapes, apples and more. Since our Flights will no longer include fruit garnishes, we will be including additional servings of your favorite cheeses. Now there is a little something added for everyone!
